I use elixir strings and really find they hold up a lot longer than conventional non coated strings. They don’t corrode. I sometimes play finger style and use my nails. the wound lower strings fray over time because of this and then I put on a new set.

Also is there anything you can treat new strings with (wd-40 or something ) that would keep the windings on the strings from accumulating build-up?

I wipe with dry cloth from music store for guitars but I may be speeding up the process instead of keeping me strings clean.

thx.
